Metropolitan Housing Coalition

Overview

MHC is the united voice for fair, safe and affordable housing in the Greater Louisville, KY region. Our mission is to bring together our community’s public and private resources to provide equitable, accessible housing choices for all persons through advocacy, research, public education, and support for affordable housing providers. This diverse coalition is is comprised of over 300 individual and organizational members. MHC advocates for affordable housing policies by advancing legislative priorities such as the Louisville and Kentucky Affordable Housing Trust Funds. MHC identifies affordable housing trends in order to craft appropriate responses and policy. We also organize several grassroots committees, including the Louisville Vacant Properties Campaign and the Fair Housing Coalition. MHC conducts research relevant to housing in the metropolitan region. Published annually since 2003, "The State of Metropolitan Housing Report " examines 9 affordable housing measures and includes a special focus topic. MHC also regularly provides valuable data analysis through issue papers such as:" The State of Fair Housing in Louisville: Impediments & Actions"; "Where Do You Live? Louisville’s Homeless Children & the Affordable Housing Crisis"; and "Vacant Properties: A Tool to Turn Neighborhood Liabilities into Assets." MHC analyzes housing policy from a data driven perspective, then uses this research as a tool to advocate for fair, safe, and affordable housing.
