Overview

Medi-Futures, founded in 2023, is the expansion of Medi-Gators, a program at the University of Florida. Medi-Futures is a free program that provides accessible virtual shadowing and impactful mentorship to students at various institutions in the State of Florida. The Medi-Futures Virtual Shadowing Program consists of 40+ presentations each semester from a wide-array of healthcare professionals (physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, social workers, etc.), intending to expose students to a wide variety of careers while also providing sessions dedicated on how to approach the professional school application process. Since our program was founded at the University of Florida the Fall of 2020, demographics of Medi-Futures participants include: 30% underrepresented races, 27% first-generation college students, 26% pell-grant recipients, and 79% women. The accessibility of Medi-Futures facilitates our ability to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the pre-health pipeline.
