Overview

MEDA is an international economic development organization whose mission is to create business solutions to poverty. Founded in 1953 by a group of business professionals, MEDA partners with the poor to start or grow small and medium-sized businesses in developing regions around the world. MEDA will work in the Jordan Valley and surrounding areas to directly support 25,000 women and youth in increasing their incomes and their contribution to Jordan’s economic growth. A further 25,000 individuals are expected to benefit indirectly from the project’s initiatives in three sectors: food processing, tourism and clean technologies. To do this, MEDA will take a two-branched approach leading to: 1. Improved entrepreneurial and business acumen of women and youth in targeted sectors 2. Reduced barriers to entry for enterprise development for women and youth The project will use multiple approaches including the development of lead entrepreneurs and female/youth sales agents as entrepreneurial providers of products and services to a network of producers and processors at the community level.
