Overview

We are a MSU-ratified student group at McMaster University that wishes to bridge the gap between hearing students and students who are hard-of-hearing/deaf in the McMaster and Hamilton community. We wish to raise awareness about hearing loss amongst McMaster students, especially regarding the challenges associated with hearing impairment. These include accessibility limitations and psychosocial isolation. In addition, we aim to offer opportunities for students to identify risks associated with hearing loss progression in order to prevent such occurrences to themselves or relatives. Furthermore, we want to educate students about communication skills beneficial in interactions with hearing impaired individuals/communities (e.g. ASL). Finally, we hope to serve as a platform for discussion amongst students and professionals regarding the current state of hearing loss in Canadian society, and the potential future obstacles/initiatives.
