McGill Childcare Centre

Overview

The McGill Childcare Centre, also known officially as the Centre de la Petite Enfance de McGill, serves 110 children of McGill students, staff and faculty. The McGill Childcare Centre is a non-profit corporation holding permits from the City of Montreal and the Quebec Government. It has been in operation since 1973 and is governed by an elected Board of Directors composed of 9 members; 7 parents, 1 community representative, 1 staff member. The philosophy of the McGill Childcare Centre is based on the belief that children learn through hands-on, age appropriate activities that enhance a child's creativity and sense of discovery. Children learn about the world around them through play. Through an individualized approach within a group setting, the staff strives to provide the children with a consistent warm environment. The open-door policy for registered families and emphasis on the team approach to childcare makes parental participation fundamental. The centre administration, staff, parents and volunteers help to provide a consistent, warm and welcoming environment. As part of the philosophy, the centre encourages exposure to the multicultural facets of Canadian life. The centre is fortunate to have a community representative of the diversity of the McGill population, which in turn reflects the rich cultural life of Montreal.
