Maths Inspiration

Overview

Maths Inspiration was founded in 2004 by Rob Eastaway to run interactive lecture shows for teenagers to demonstrate there is more to maths than taking exams. The program has since expanded to become one of the largest out of school Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM) programs in the UK. In the last 15 years over 150,000 teenagers have seen a Maths Inspiration show.. Maths Inspiration has links with the major maths and engineering bodies and is supported by a number of universities and blue chip employers. Maths Inspiration lecturers are dynamic maths experts, with television, performance and presentation experience who inspire, and educate - men and women who are excited by maths, and are able to use comedy and teaching to entertain and engage the teenage audience. Shows are constantly evolving, taking on board audience feedback and changes to the curriculum. Maths Inspiration recruits women presenters to provide positive role models for girls and promote maths and engineering as fields open to both men and women. The shows link maths and engineering to the real world of work, making the subjects interesting and relevant to further study, jobs and apprenticeship opportunities. An important aim of Maths Inspiration is to make its events accessible to all schools, especially those that don’t already have a strong maths culture. Working with business sponsors Maths Inspiration has been able to make the events affordable to a wide range of schools across the UK.
