Overview

The Maternal Health Initiative provides health workers with high-quality training and resources to support women in making safe, informed choices around family size and birth spacing. We believe that every individual should have the ability to choose how many children they want and when they want to have them. In doing so, we can reduce rates of maternal mortality, improve child health, and increase likely lifetime earnings. Our programme targets the postpartum (post-birth) period - a uniquely impactful juncture. Access to family planning at this point prevents short-spaced pregnancies, a significant risk factor for both maternal and neonatal mortality. There is a wealth of strong evidence that this approach can be highly cost-effective in improving health outcomes.
