Overview

The Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) was established just after World War II ended as a follow-up of wartime scientific programs. For almost 70 years, MPL has maintained a strong multidisciplinary research program consisting entirely of sponsored exploratory and technology based oceanographic research and scientific development. As an organized research unit of the University of California, San Diego, MPL serves an integral part of the academic environment of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and in the sponsorship and supervision of graduate student research in areas of ocean sciences and technology.
