Malum, Inc. is an Iowa City based technology company that offers a broad array of Artificial Intelligence derived tools whose applications range from keeping individuals safe from physical harm to optimizing their performance. Our technology enables us to track and analyze the behaviors of individuals, identify and deter behaviors that could threaten their safety and the safety of those around them, and deploy interventions to minimize or eliminate sources of harm. Further, they permit us to track individuals’ physical movements, obtain and analyze data related to those movements, and use those data to intervene to prevent accidents and injuries, or to optimize performances. The company has identified five (5) areas where its technology can be used to great advantage, each of which will be addressed by a unique product: 1) Gun Detection (to prevent shootings by bad actors) 2) Slip, Trip and Fall (to prevent avoidable physical injuries) 3) Motion Tracking and Analysis (to help optimize physical performance) 4) Physical Abuse (to prevent mistreatment of vulnerable individuals) 5) Injury Avoidance (to predict and prevent injury due to intense physical activity) The company’s products rely on Intellectual Property (IP) owned by the University of Iowa (UI) and licensed exclusively to Malum Inc. The IP is the result of 15 years of UI-conducted R&D under contract with the U.S. Department of Defense. The technology used for all of these products involves non-intrusive monitoring through video camera surveillance.
