Overview

Galleria d'Arte Maggiore g.a.m. was founded in 1978 by Franco and Roberta Calarota, who have established the international prestige of the gallery through a permanent collection of museum-quality works by 20th-century international masters. Their daughter, Alessia Calarota, became director of the gallery in 2011, linking tradition with a new perspective. Taking an innovative approach, the exhibition presented in the main location in Bologna aims to show how modern art influenced contemporary art. The gallery has always dealt with two fundamental aspects of the art world: the market and institutional promotion. It developed important collaborative relationships with museums and institutions in Italy and abroad (among them: the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, Museum of Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, Venice Biennale, Tate Modern in London, The Estorick of Modern Italian Art in London and many others), testifying the high quality of the works in its collection. Being the reference on the market for some Masters as Giorgio Morandi and Giorgio de Chirico, Maggiore g.a.m. has collaborated to realize some important Institutional and private exhibitions about their work. Galleria d'Arte Maggiore g.a.m. has taken and takes part in a selection of the world’s most important art fairs such as Art Basel, Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Basel Hong Kong, Tefaf Maastricht, Tefaf Spring New York, Frieze Masters, The Armory Show in New York, Fiac in Paris, Abu Dhabi Art, Art Cologne and Arco in Madrid. Since 2019 the Calarota's family has open a foundation in Venice: ACP Palazzo Franchetti
