Overview

Lizardgems was founded by Ruth Burman-De Souza in 2018. Ruth is from Coventry, West Midlands, UK and she studied BA Interior Design at Falmouth University, Cornwall, UK. Living by the beach was truly amazing for her and this is where the business began. Lizardgems was born in Falmouth, Cornwall, UK in the summer of 2017, Ruth would often collect seaglass from the local beaches. She began experimenting with wire to create pendants for necklaces and soon after she bought her first drill. Her techniques developed and grew alongside her portfolio of jewellery. Since graduating from Falmouth University in 2017 Ruth has worked in a shop, hotel and restaurant to help fund her jewellery making business. She left Falmouth in April 2018 to move back to her hometown of Coventry in order to develop her business further. After moving, she took part in a Prince's Trust workshop, where she gained essential skills to run her own business. Therefore Lizardgems is a Prince's Trust supported business. It is not only jewellery that Ruth creates, but also graphical prints of animals to enhance her portfolio of work, but never losing sight of the business and it's origins and ethics. All work is handmade by Ruth, inspired by nature.
