Overview

The Department of Clinical Genetics provides genetic counselling to patients from the area of Funen and Southern Jutland (selected groups of patients). The department moreover offers counselling to citizens in the entire Region of Southern Denmark, when it comes to highly specialized genetics, and in the entire country when it comes to certain rare diseases. The laboratory is ISO 15 189 accredited and performs pre- and postnatal exome/genome sequencing as well as a large number of other molecular and cytogenetic analyses. The CAKS (Centre of Hereditary and Complex Diseases) initiative is hosted by the department and provides monitoring and follow-up for patients with rare, hereditary and complex diseases. This is done with the involvement of all relevant specialties and in close collaboration with the clinical and paraclinical departments at Odense University Hospital (OUH). The department has a wide research activity in rare diseases and hereditary cancer. The department hosts a core research facility center, Clinical Genome Center (CGC), and collaborates with the department of Clinical Research at the University of Southern Denmark whose research entity, Clinical Genetics, is situated in the department.
