International School of Hamburg (ISH)

Higher Education

Overview

The International School of Hamburg (ISH) was Germany’s very first international school. For more than half a century it delivers excellent international education. We offer the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) - two globally recognized curricular models that foster critical thinking, creativity and international-mindedness as well as high academic standards. We combine the IPC (age 3-10), the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) (age 11-16), and the IB Diploma Program (DP) (age 17-19) to deliver a seamless flow from kindergarten right through to university entry qualification. By making use of the worldwide network of several thousand IPC and IB schools, internationally mobile parents can avoid the many challenges associated with switching to and between national education systems. Our 760 students currently represent more than 50 nationalities. We recruit highly qualified, experienced teachers and administrators from all over the world to create a vibrant, nurturing, student-centered learning experience. Together our students, their parents and our staff form a truly unique community – a mosaic of nations. Our language of instruction is English, yet speakers of all languages benefit from our English as an Additional Language (EAL) program. We also provide opportunities for students to study their mother tongue language during the curricular day or after school. Recognizing our responsibility to prepare our students for global citizenship, our mission is to provide them with an international education which seeks to develop their full potential and to foster understanding, respect for others, freedom of thought and expression, enjoyment of learning and personal responsibility. We are proud that our graduates have been able to connect their educational experience to an ever-changing world of employment, advanced study at some of the world’s most prestigious universities, the arts or humanitarian service.
