Overview

The IDU is the world's leading association of centre-right political parties. Chaired by Canada's 22nd Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, we are a mission-oriented not-for-profit that brings our members together globally to build relationships, share best practices, and support our shared values of freedom and democracy. With over 80 member parties and growing, the IDU network is truly global. Founded in 1983, the IDU provides a forum for parties come together to exchange views on matters of policy and organisational interest in order that they may learn from each other, act together, establish contacts, and speak with a unified voice to promote democracy and centre-right policies around the globe. Founding members of the IDU included Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Margaret Thatcher, then US Vice-President George Bush Sr, Paris Mayor and later President of France Jacques Chirac, German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and among others.
