Overview

The Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) is a laboratory of the national center of scientific research (CNRS) and associated with the University Pierre et Marie Curie (soon to become an internal school of the University Paris 6). The IAP is one of the 5 institutes of the European Association of Research in Astronomy (EARA), and one of its 3 founding members. As an institution at the interface of two fields of research, the IAP brings together astrophysicists from the Universe Sciences division (INSU) of the CNRS with theoretical physicists from the Physical Sciences division (SPM) of the CNRS. The IAP has a staff of 160 scientists, engineers, technicians, administrators and graduate students, and regularly hosts numerous student trainees and foreign visitors. The IAP hosts the 2nd year of the Master's program "Astronomy and Astrophysics" of the graduate school of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the Ile-de-France, and thus has close links with the Observatory of Paris, located on the same campus.
