Founded in 1923 in Chicago IL, Independent Mechanical Industries, Inc. (IMI) is a mechanical contractor specializing in process & industrial piping and heat & power generation. IMI's Heat & Power division provides complete installation of boilers, pressure vessels, smokestacks, dust collectors, heat exchangers, waste heat recovery systems and all associated equipment. In addition, the division provides routine boiler repair and maintenance services on all sizes and types of boilers. IMI's Process Piping division provides complete installation and repair of all types and sizes of piping to its industrial and municipal clients in the power, petrochemical refining, steel production, pharmaceutical, food, water and waste water treatment sectors. IMI can perform ASME & National Board code work when it is required by a customer. IMI presently maintains four ASME stamps:“U” – Manufacture of Pressure Vessels, “PP” – Fabrication and Assembly of Pressure Piping, “A” – Assembly of Power Boilers, “H2” – Heating Boilers. In addition, IMI authorized by The National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspectors to repair and/or alter boilers, pressure vessels, and other pressure-retaining items under its "R" mark. IMI serves clients in Illinois, northern Indiana, and southern Wisconsin.
