Humane Society of Midland County

Non-profit Organizations

Overview

The Humane Society of Midland County (HSoMC) is a 501c3 organization which operates the only animal shelter in Midland County. Services include adoption, animal intake, lost and found, microchipping, spay/neuter programs, youth program, volunteer opportunities and much more. HSoMC is dedicated to promoting the compassionate treatment of animals in our community and finding permanent loving homes for lost, unwanted and abandoned animals. The organization is locally supported and receives no state or municipal funding. Adoptions: Any shelter animal not being held as a stray is available for immediate, same-day adoption! Stray animals are held for one week while we look for an owner, adoption applications are accepted on them during the week-long stray hold. Approved applications for strays are honored in the order they are received once the stray hold is up. Available animals that have not yet been spayed/neutered can be met and paid for in order to be held for the adopter. The animal can only go home once that surgery has been performed. Adoption fees vary between $75-300 for dogs/puppies and $0-60 for cats/kittens. These fees include spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, veterinary care, and microchipping. You must be at least 18 to adopt. Current pets must be spayed/neutered. If you rent, you must have landlord permission to have a pet. Membership: There are many opportunities for members and volunteers in the way of fundraising, educating, working at the shelter cleaning, walking the animals or just offering comfort to those who are scared. We are in constant need of foster homes, transport vehicles and drivers, creative ideas and more things than we can list. We need YOU. If you think you can’t work directly with the animals because you will bring one home, there are plenty of other areas you can work in and are needed.
