Overview

Founded over 30 years ago, the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) is dedicated to saving and transforming lives. As one of the first NGO’s in South Africa to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, HACT has established a reputation for making a significant and meaningful impact in the lives of those both infected and affected by the disease. HACT’s mission is to provide unconditional love and hope to all those impacted by HIV/AIDS. Collectively our projects directly impact the lives of over 10 000 people every year, the majority of whom are women, orphaned and vulnerable children and young people at risk. HACT adopts a holistic, family-centric and asset-based approach to tackling HIV/AIDS and strives at all times to deliver practical, sustainable and community-led projects which ultimately uplift and empower those we work for and alongside. HACT’s four key focus areas are: 1. Healthcare HACT provides comprehensive healthcare services to vulnerable individuals, families and communities which align with South Africa’s National Strategic Plan on HIV/AIDS, TB & STI’s including; HIV testing, TB & STI screening, home-based and inpatient care as well as adherence counselling. 2. Prevention & Education Focusing on children and young people at risk, HACT’s evidence-based education programmes are proven to reduce new HIV infections as well as inspire and mobilize healthy living advocates. Recognising that women and young girls are most vulnerable, many of our programmes are specifically designed to address their unique challenges. 3. HIV Support & Family Strengthening HACT provides targeted support to at risk groups such as orphaned and vulnerable children and gogos (grandmothers) caring for such children. Through our innovative programmes we work to reduce social deprivation and build the capacity and resilience of local families in need. 4. Economic Empowerment HACT’s award-winning social enterprise initiatives provide sustainable job creation and poverty alleviation.
