Research

Overview

The Centre works with local, regional, and global partners to promote sustainable development, with the focus mainly in the areas of Sustainable Agriculture (SA), Sustainable Environment (SE), Economics of Climate Change Adaptation (ECCA), and Rural Development. The Centre was created with the aim of providing the evidence necessary to strengthen the role of research and governance in the economic development of Africa, Rwanda in particular. The Centre boasts wide expertise in the priority areas of national development. This is coupled with an in-depth understanding of Rwanda and the wider region. In research it privileges the use of integrated, inclusive and multi-sectoral approaches. The Centre’s main areas of focus are research and policy advisory services. Since its creation the Centre has been active in providing much-needed evidence to guide interventions across sectors and within organizations. The Research Department consists of a team of experts with extensive research and consultancy experience in socio-economic, agricultural and environmental policy evaluation, and impact assessment. The mostly multi-lingual experts possess both domestic and international learning and working experiences. Over the last five years our researchers have conducted research and evaluated policies in various areas, and in various countries in the region. Some of the evaluations focused on food security, agricultural institutions, land governance, off-farm job creation, inclusiveness of gender in development, the effectiveness of development cooperation, and the application of ICTs in development. The Centre has excellent working relationships with a wide range of private and public bodies, including civil society organizations, as well as international development organizations. Also, it has an extensive database of research technicians with vast field experience and training in qualitative and quan
