Overview

Hiamo creates Augmented Reality (AR) experiences that bring content to life by immersing users in interactive stories, visualizations, and more. We use AR in the heritage space to rebuild lost historic landmarks, share heritage stories, and reconnect people with history. We offer an interactive alternative to physical restorations of lost or damaged objects by reproducing either the objects or entire heritage sites in AR. Our approach allows users to interact and engage with content in an innovative new way. We enable explorative learning by creating AR replicas of objects, places, and people, thereby allowing users to examine historic or educational content directly. This level of interaction implores people to learn how things work and immerse themselves in stories. We do all this by using phones and tablets to display 3D content at specific sites or in your own home. So far, this has included visualizing the planets of our solar system on pieces of paper, placing eight-metre high naval guns back at historic coastal defence sites, and sharing the story of the Wahine ferry disaster next to a memorial dedicated to it. The possibilities of our technology within heritage and education are varied and flexible, and we are more than open to bringing your ideas to life. Hiamo was founded through Te Papa's business accelerator programme, Mahuki. Since then, we have explored new markets and developed many new ideas - and we are more than ready to keep exploring.
