Overview
Inspired by the Harlem Children's Zone, Promise Neighborhoods are place-based efforts to wrap children in integrated, coordinated, high-quality academic, social, and health programs supports from the cradle to college to career. Strong schools are core to every Promise Neighborhood, as is family and community engagement. Hayward was one of the first five cities in the nation to be awarded a five-year, $25 million Promise Neighborhood grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support Hayward's Jackson Triangle community and students that attend six focus schools within the Hayward Unified School District. Led by California State University, East Bay; Hayward Promise Neighborhooda brings together various local agencies to make long-lasting changes that will improve the educational outcomes and lives of the local community.
