Harvard Mock Trial Association

Overview

The Harvard Mock Trial Association is one of the premier collegiate trial law and advocacy teams in the nation. HMTA won the National Championship of the American Mock Trial Association in 2015, was the National Runner-Up in 2006, 2007, and 2010, and has advanced to the National Championship Tournament every year for over a decade. Unlike most other trial teams, HMTA is entirely student-run and receives no assistance, competitive or administrative, from any coach. HMTA competitors have been awarded at all levels of competition, with several competitors over the years having been named AMTA All-Americans. After graduating from Harvard College, HMTA alumni have gone on to gain admission to top law schools and achieve distinction in a wide variety of fields, including law, business, and medicine. HMTA's success has led the organization to pursue several non-competitive initiatives. Chief among these is the Angela R. Mathew High School Seminar Program, an annual weekend seminar on Harvard's campus in Cambridge, MA, during which HMTA competitors teach high school students the techniques and tactics that have allowed Harvard to succeed at the most elite levels of competition. Attendees of the seminars have gone on to win more than a dozen state championships and include both the 2009 High School National Champion and 2010 National Runner-Up.
