Overview

HANDS is an American 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that is committed to building bridges between the people of Egypt and the US. In addition to our programs of international exchange and dialogue, HANDS also supports projects aimed at bringing socioeconomic progress to Egyptian communities. You may wonder why HANDS chooses to focus primarily on Egypt. One of the largest and the most influential countries in the Middle East, Egypt faces numerous social and economic challenges to progress and to a peaceful prosperous future. Egypt is looked upon as an example for other emerging democracies in the region. Successful improvements to the socioeconomic wellbeing of Egyptian communities can serve as a model for other countries in the Middle East of how to bring positive change for the betterment of their people. HANDS looks to bring stability to the region by empowering communities to tackle their own problems through participatory decision–making and responsible self-governance. Projects to empower the people of Egypt include improving access to medical care, education, job skills training, microloans to start small businesses, and entrepreneurship training.
