Overview

In her native Brazil, in London and San Francisco, Brazilian-irish visual artist and arts facilitator Patricia "P" Gurgel-Segrillo has trained and worked in a diverse range of disciplines, through oil painting, silk-screen printing, film animation, hat design, gemology, ergonomics, interior accessories and jewellery design and manufacture. Patricia has developed the weaving techniques in silver and gold that she uses to create unique jewellery pieces throughout nearly 30 years of jewellery-making. P Gurgel-Segrillo's contemporary jewellery series have been exhibited in galleries in the UK, Ireland, Japan, Brazil and the USA and are sold worldwide; actor Orlando Bloom is one of many collectors of her work and may be purchased at her online shop. Parallel to the jewellery-making, Patricia has produced two 'green design' work series of contemporary sculptural lighting and free standing pieces designed and made in collaboration with wood artist Garvan McGrane and inspired by the elements water and air. In 2004 Patricia completed an MA Degree in Design Studies from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, in London, where she lived for 8 years and established her design-craft-art practice. 'Design - Craft - Art : I try to blur their boundaries... good thought and good design that should go into the piece, the hand-crafted aspect and the skill which it requires as well as my artistic expression- all three are as important to me.' P Gurgel-Segrillo is a member of Visual Artists Ireland, registered with the Crafts Council of Ireland and the London Assay Office, and is thankful for the support of the New Irish Art Project and for the assistance of the Cork City Enterprise Office. Member of CRAFTed: Crafts Council of Ireland's Education Panel which aims for the development and delivery of training programmes relating to the Visual Arts curriculum at primary level.
