Overview

Since 1967, Guilford Child Development (GCD) has served young children and families in Guilford County through six dynamic programs. These programs strive to provide family-centered services that promote educational excellence, health and well being, community engagement, job readiness and life-skills training. Every year, GCD serves over 6,000 low-income children and their parents through these programs: 1) Head Start and Early Head Start provides high quality educational experiences for children in Guilford and Rockingham Counties and offers a comprehensive curriculum that prepares children for success in school. 2) Regional Child Care Resources & Referral, provides information, referral and financial assistance toward child care for working parents, as well as professional training for childcare providers. 3) Nurse-Family Partnership provides intensive nurse home visitation to low-income, first-time mothers. This nationally recognized program has been successful in greatly improving access to quality prenatal care and postpartum services while helping mothers acheive their personal goals. 4) Learning Together Family Literacy is a two-generational literacy program that focuses on educational achievements and social advancements of immigrant/refugee and minority mothers and their preschool children. 5) The Family Success Center is an integrated services program focused on breaking the cycle of poverty. The program brings together adult education, work readiness training, health and wellness, and financial literacy training for Greensboro families. 6) High Point Opportunity Center is building programs that focus on job readiness, parent engagement and life-skills classes for adults.
