Overview

Greenwich & Bexley Credit Union is a local not for profit financial co-operative, owned by our members and founded on principles of mutual co-operation and trust. Members pool their savings to create a pot of money from which we make affordable loans. Any surplus generated is ploughed back into the business or returned to members as a dividend on savings. The credit union was launched in 1998. Since then we have supported 16,000 local residents and employees and loaned more than £44 million. We currently look after more than £13m of local savings We welcome applications from anyone who lives, works or studies in the London boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley, or in any DA postcode. Organisations providing faith, charitable, public, housing, social or welfare services based in the area are welcome to apply for corporate membership. The credit union is run by a Board of unpaid, volunteer Directors elected from our membership. They are responsible for the strategic direction of the credit union and legal compliance. The internal audit function is carried out by a Supervisory Committee which ensures the credit union complies with our rules. The Board is supported by a small team of paid staff based in our Woolwich HQ. We are authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. Our Firm Reference Number is 213921.
