Overview
Good Shepherd Mediation Program (GSMP) is the only nonprofit community mediation center in Philadelphia, encouraging peace, reconciliation and social justice through the use of mediation and other constructive conflict resolution processes. Mediation empowers disputants to search creatively for meaningful and lasting solutions to their conflicts without resorting to crime or violence. Staff and more than 50 trained volunteers currently provide mediation and related services to help resolve interpersonal disputes involving youth offenders and victims, families, friends, neighbors, employers and employees, consumers and merchants, landlords and tenants and others. Eighty-five percent of the disputes that reach mediation result in a written statement agreed to by the parties, thus avoiding further escalation, hostility or violence. GSMP also offers an array of trainings, workshops and consulting services related to mediation and conflict resolution. See website for a complete listing.
