Overview

Better places! Better life! To recognize the difference between artificial and natural materials! To work with natural materials and keep as much connections with nature as possible! To use timber which is an ideal green building material: it is well suited for a broad range of structural and aesthetic applications, it offers high performance characteristics; and wood is an economic driver to maintain forests and protect jobs in our communities! To remember that the sun which is lower in the sky in Winter than in Summer allows us to plan and construct buildings that capture free heat in Winter and reject the heat in Summer. The orientation of the whole building plays an important role! To understand that there are three principal directions - up, down, and horizontal - and three basic architectural elements - ceiling, floor, and wall! To accept that to be meaningful, architecture should have formal properties that are related to other aspects of the environment! And to remember: Vertical Tree Hug: Encircle it with your arms while gently pressing your cheek to the trunk being careful not to scratch your face. Squeeze tightly. Sigh deeply!
