Overview

The Gilgit-Baltistan Girls Football League is a women-led football league that has been run indigenously by the Shimshali Sisters; Sumaira Inayat & Karishma Inayat since 2018. It is Pakistan's first women-led girls football tournament that happens every year in the 3rd quarter of the year in the mountainous valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan. The GBGFL initiative was taken understanding the tough socio-economic conditions as well as very limited economic activities, which are few and far between in the North. This was also done keeping in mind the projection of the soft image of Pakistan as a nation. GBGFL 2018-19 has been a successful event and you would be pleased to know that this small initiative has motivated 120 families to send out their girls year after year to play league football from the Gilgit-Baltistan Region. This initiative has been eulogized in local and international media, donors and support organizations including The Guardian Newspaper, UN-Women, NatGeo Travel, SBS World News, Goal Click UK to name a few. We aim to make it to a national and international level so that our players can get the recognition and opportunities that they deserve.
