Overview

The GACC's free museum celebrates the German immigrants who founded Gretna in 1836 on the West Bank of the Mississippi River across from New Orleans. Their first town here, called Mechanikham, became Gretna in 1913. Our museum has exhibits about the history and culture of those immigrants, as well as a photography display of vintage images of the people, events and businesses that grew up in this German town.
