Forest of Dean District Council

Overview

The Forest of Dean district has a population of 82,000 (2011 Census) living in an area covering 585 square kilometres. Over 100 square kilometres of this is woodland managed by the Forestry Commission. Our district has four main towns and many smaller, rural settlements where the majority (approximately 58%) of the population live. For residents the "specialness" of the area is important arising from its cultural identity and natural environment. The Forest of Dean District Council exists to serve the people of the Forest of Dean. The 48 councillors come from many walks of life and they represent differing political parties and opinions. They are united by their desire to do their very best for the people of the district.
