Overview

Food for Freedom originally began in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in February of 2012. A fifteen year old high school student saw to break the world record of the largest food drive in a twenty-four hour period. Food for Freedom first took place Saturday, May 25th and Sunday May 26th, 2013 at Fond du Lac High School. It took thousands of pallets and boxes, as well as the work of over four hundred people who had volunteered. Food for Freedom was able to raise a staggering 130,311 pounds of food. Food for Freedom was driven by the initial, diligent work of a high school student, able to inspire an entire community to join in hand. The high school student, Danny Loomans, is now a first year student at DePaul University. He, inspired by the impact Food for Freedom had in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is now attempting to hold a second event along side his new hardworking and dedicated team. Food for Freedom began in Fond du Lac, though it is now Chicago, Illinois beginning to face the challenge, a challenge capable of not only uniting a city, but also taking a step in the fight against food insecurity. Food for Freedom is an embodiment of the definition of servant leadership. It will not end the fight against hunger, yet it will unite a community. Food for Freedom is set to take place in May of 2016.
