Fondazione Banca degli Occhi del Veneto Onlus (Veneto Eye Bank Foundation), established in 1987, is a non-profit, social welfare organization and regional centre of reference for corneal transplantation and research into epithelial stem cells and ocular diseases. EYE BANKING. Veneto Eye Bank Foundation is one of the leading eye banks in Europe for the retrieval, testing, processing, preservation, storage and distribution of human donor ocular tissue for transplant and for the treatment of pathologies of the anterior segment of the eye, in compliance with national and international criteria and standards of quality and safety. DIAGNOSIS AND COUNSELLING. A tertiary outpatient referral centre was established at the end of 2003 in response to the many requests received from surgeons and patients, for the diagnosis of complex diseases of the ocular surface. RESEARCH. Veneto Eye Bank Foundation has a consolidated expertise in the carrying out of research, training and clinical studies for the treatment and cure of patients affected by ocular diseases, with particular attention to the genetic mechanisms related to rare eye diseases of the cornea and retina. COMMUNICATION. Veneto Eye Bank Foundation has developed a specific know-how in the promotion of the culture of donation and the reporting of socio-medical activities and projects, and is recognized as a reality that has contributed to the growth of non-profit organizations in terms of communication at a national level.
