Overview

This event is intended for representatives of research and teaching institutions, decision-makers from museums, young colleagues, and service providers in the museum and exhibition industry. The first FOCUS event took place in March 2014 and was a huge success. Around 250 well-known names in national and international exhibition planning, media development, design, scenography, and culture visited St. Paul’s Monastery for the topic “New media in museums and exhibitions”. In March 2015, the topic was “People . Making . Museums.”, in April 2016 it was “Exhibitions between technology and staging”, and in 2017 “Inclusion and accessibility in the museum”, each highly successful. This was followed by “Change management in museums” in 2018 and “Depot planning and collection management” in 2019. In 2021, the event focused on “Cultural tourism, visitor management and marketing for museums”. In 2022, the topics “Security, energy efficiency and facility management for museums“ were discussed. The next FOCUS: MUSEUM will take place from 24th to 26th April 2023 examine the following topic: “MAKING EXHIBITIONS! SCENOGRAPHY, EXHIBITION DESIGN AND MEDIA STAGING FOR MUSEUMS“ Exhibitions tell stories in space. Regardless of size, success, theme, or sector - exhibitions are extremely complex media. They are difficult to produce and are subject to constant changes in viewing habits. This FOCUS event aims to present inspiring perspectives for the realisation of exhibitions. With best practice examples, exhibition designers show how they create new solutions on complex topics through spatial staging. The venue is the impressive, 700-year-old former St. Paul’s Monastery in Brandenburg an der Havel, which has housed the State Archaeological Museum since 2008. With around 10,000 carefully selected exhibits, the permanent exhibition offers a fascinating glimpse into the 130,000-year cultural history of the state of Brandenburg.
