Overview

What is FIKA(S)? Founded in 2015, FIKA(S) is first and foremost a festival celebrating Scandinavian culture by showcasing its music, its films, its culinary arts various other forms of traditional crafts. Secondly, it is a meeting point for people who have an interest in learning more about the Scandinavian countries. Through a rich variety of peripheral events like conferences and workshops related to Scandinavia, it will be a sort of smörgåsbord (or Swedish-style buffet) of activities unlike any other event currently happening in Canada. Its mission is to promote cultural events based on values of proximity, sharing, encounters and discoveries amongst artists and the public. What does FIKA(S) mean, and why name the Festival after it? The name FIKA(S) is a French acronym that stands for “Immersive Festival of Scandinavian Kultur and Art”. It is inspired from the Swedish word fika, which refers to the coffee break or snack time that often serves as a pretext for friends to meet and discuss over in Sweden. This definition matches our vision for the FIKA(S) festival perfectly: to offer Montrealers intimate and unifying cultural and artistic events, allowing people to take a break from their every day lives to enjoy winter, and live the festival experience differently!
