The Evergreen International School (EIS) is a private, pre-primary English language school. French is taught to all children as a second language. We also emphasize art and mathematics. Children of all languages, from age two and a half, are welcome. Our maximum class size is set at 8 students per teacher, with homelike classroom environments, and affordable tuition fees. We intend to remain small, the maximum size of Evergreen will be 20 children. We find the insight of Maria Montessori’s ideas about natural environments for learning to be profound. We are also especially inspired by Waldorf Schools and the preschool programs of Reggio Emilia, which are based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community. EVERGREEN is situated in Waterloo, at the beautiful Château de la Rose, which includes an extensive garden with magnificent trees. Our school site and our name ‘Evergreen’ reflect our particular interest in outdoor activities which include the care of our many pet animals, gardening, vegetable and flower cultivation, sports, games and overall appreciation of ecology, recycling, nature, and our environment. The school day is from 08:30 to 15:45, and on Wednesdays until 13:00. Our Wednesday afternoon program offers opportunities to explore art, music, dance and outdoor fun, such as gardening, skating, climbing, and learning about animals, while learning English.
