Overview

The European Board for Certified Counselors (EBCC), registered in Portugal, supports European countries in their endeavors to develop the counseling profession. EBCC’s mission is to promote: -The value of counseling. -Professionalism and quality of counseling services in various areas of specialization. -Respect for national and cultural values in counseling. -Public awareness of the importance of counseling quality standards and certification programs. EBCC collaborates with leaders in European countries and consistently explores proposals to further establish the counseling profession. The majority of collaborations consist of the development of educational programs, study of transnational research and exchange of best practices in career counseling, school counseling, mental health and supervision. EBCC partners with universities and organizations in Europe in adapting and administrating the following certification programs: -Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) -Certified Supervision Professional (CSP) -National Certified Counselor (NCC) Certification is an important part of counseling professionalization. The creation of a certification indicates that counseling professionals believe their profession has developed to the level that setting standards through certification is an appropriate step in its evolution. EBCC advocates for and supports European countries in their efforts to develop a strong counseling profession—from the establishment of practice standards and procedures to the creation of a national certification scheme.
