Overview
With the generous support of the U.S. Embassy in Algiers, World Learning hopes to work with practitioners across Algeria to build a strong network of professionals involved in the field of teaching English as a Second Language - ESL. The ESL Network’s objectives are to ensure training opportunities for new teachers, collect and create high quality resources for language teaching, and create a virtual platform for Algerian teaching experts to share their expertise. Most importantly, the Network seeks to be both high-impact and long-lasting in strengthening the teaching of English in Algeria. To this end, the Network seeks first to create a Steering Committee. It will ideally be composed of 6 dynamic members from key points of influence in the ESL community who will ensure, through bi-monthly meetings, the progress of the network and its activities. In addition to a related professional background, the members also need to have a commitment and sufficient time to pursue the following tasks: • Establish the mission statement for the network, with associated guiding principles. • Develop a clear strategy to guide the network’s management. • Supervise, oversee, and motivate the progress of activities suggested for the inaugural year. The network will also have four sub-committees composed of 8 members, two for each of the following committees: Communication, Resources, Training, and Sustainability. Our objective is to bring together people who are experts in the field to take part in the Steering Committee and the four sub-committees. Therefore, we invite you to recommend a representative from your institution to be a member of the Steering Committee.
