Overview

Equality Myanmar (EQMM) is a Myanmar Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) that envisions a peaceful, tolerant, democratic society built on respect for dignity and human rights for all in Myanmar. Our mission is to empower the people of Myanmar through human rights education to engage in social transformation and promote a culture of rights for all. Formerly known as the Human Rights Education Institute of Burma (HREIB), EQMM is a nongovernmental organization that facilitates a broad range of human rights trainings, advocacy programs, and research and documentation projects which target civil society organizations and grassroots communities. EQMM operates two human rights training centers in Yangon and Mandalay, in addition to conducting external trainings and activities in all 14 states and regions which target participants based in rural areas and ethnic regions. Since our establishment in 2000, EQMM has trained over 2,000 activists, women and youth leaders, human rights defenders, teachers, and community organizers, building a strong network of human rights trainers and advocates across the country. EQMM has also played a central role in capacitating civil society organizations and coordinating a wide range of advocacy campaigns over the years to raise awareness about the human rights situation in Myanmar at local, national, regional, and international levels.
