Overview

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) fosters, promotes and develops the maritime industry of the United States to meet the nation’s economic and security needs by playing a vital role in ships and shipping, port and vessel operations and the promotion of the use of waterborne transportation. Created by the Shipping Act of 1916, MARAD is led by Maritime Administrator Rear Admiral Ann C. Phillips, U.S. Navy (Ret.).
