The Charity Classic is a no-cut 54-hole event featuring the top 72 golfers on PGA TOUR Champions competing for a $2.2 million purse and is the first of three playoff events to determine the Charles Schwab Cup champion. Since the event's inception in 2016, the tournament has helped give back over $9.3 million to Richmond-area charitable organizations. Past Champions include Harrison Frazar (2023), Steven Alker (2022), Bernhard Langer (2021 and 2017), Phil Mickelson (2020), Miguel Ángel Jiménez (2019), Woody Austin (2018) and Scott McCarron (2016). Since the inaugural event in 2016, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic has received a number of accolades. In 2016, 2017 and 2019 the tournament earned the Players Award, given annually to the tournament that goes above and beyond in the experience provided to PGA TOUR Champions players. The 2018 Charity Classic won the Corporate Partnership Award, recognizing the outstanding sponsorship support from the Richmond business community as well as the 10-year extension announcement with Dominion Energy and The Country Club of Virginia, solidifying professional golf in Richmond through 2029. The 2022 tournament earned the PGA TOUR Champions President’s Award as Tournament of the Year, the Tour’s highest honor.
