DESS was established in 1979 and formally opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, the present Amir’s father. We remain proud to be one of the longest established and leading British curriculum schools in Qatar. September 2022 sealed a historic new chapter for Doha English Speaking School (DESS) as we opened our doors to Year 8 students. We have now completed our transition from Primary to Preparatory school. The Year 7 and Year 8 students can enjoy the full use of our new building and state of the art facilities: a new Science Laboratory, Art Room and Music Studios, as well as music technology equipment and a Common Room with canteen facilities. Our expanded team of specialist trained Secondary teachers provide rigour and challenge in the curriculum ensuring that students are thoroughly prepared for their next steps after DESS. We are extremely proud to be the leading non-for-profit Preparatory School in Qatar. As a member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS); a UK kitemark of excellence in education, DESS focuses on providing the best possible pastoral support and academic education for children aged 3-13.
