Overview

The beginnings of today’s Delta Tau started over 125 years ago, as Delta Tau Delta here at Brown University. In 1969 the chapter left the national fraternity and continued as Delta Tau. (Fun fact - in the same year the frat house on 65 Prospect St. was demolished and replaced with H.P. Lovecraft’s house). In 1985 Delta Tau had found its home on Wriston Quadrangle and its legacy continued… However, in the fall of 2005 the legacy of Delta Tau was in question as membership was at a mere four members. But that year, an ambitious group of 30 freshmen combined forces with the survivors to revive the Delta Tau legacy and make it their own. As a result, DTau's membership continues to reflect the diverse backgrounds from which they hailed. A decade and a half later, Delta Tau still embodies the core tenets of that revitalizing group: we aim to create a space for young men at Brown to create lasting bonds with their peers, develop personally and professionally, and give back to the Providence community. We pride ourselves on our laid-back attitudes and our laissez-faire self-governance. We are here to continue the legacy of the brothers who came before us and uphold DTau as an upstanding part of Brown’s Greek community. The equality with which we treat one another stands testament to our ability to overstep the traditional social boundaries of fraternities. We maintain a pluralist democracy where every opinion matters and everyone puts in the same time and effort. We take classes together, set up and clean up as a group, serve chicken fingers on spring weekend as a unit, and lose intramural soccer games as one— whether on campus, abroad, or in quarantine. To those of you who have attended our social events, ate a Ratty meal on our bench, or had a chance to chat with one of our brothers, we hope that DTau has had a positive impact on your Brown experience thus far. To those of you who haven't graced us with your presence, we look forward to getting to know you!
