Overview
In 2003, an enthusiastic group of students from the TU Delft started their dream project: starting an offshore student sailing race team to compete in national and international competition and meet the level of the professionals. Ever since, the team has seen many iterations and produced very skilled sailors that are still active in all kinds of sailing competitions. The team members organise all aspects about the campaign themselves. This includes scheduling trainings, keeping the boat in race condition, contact with our sponsors and organisation of events. Delft Challenge has been sailing in the Farr30, a 30 foot keelboat with a large spinaker specifically designed for coastal racing, for most of its time to compete in the Tour de France a la Voile and Sailing Arabia Tour. In 2018 the switch was made to a Diam24, a high performance trimaran for three sailors. This was a large challenge as we were the only team in the Netherlands and nearly all of the races were in France. After two years of racing the Diam 24, another switch was due. Currently we are racing the J/70, a 4 person 22 foot sports boat with a very competitive international fleet. This season we will compete in the Sailing Champions League in Sopot (Poland) and the European Championships in Weymouth (England). We proudly represent te KNZ&RV Muiden!
