Overview

The goal of the DC Tutoring & Mentoring Initiative is big but simple: To provide a tutor or mentor for every student reading below grade level or in need of additional academic or non-academic support in the District of Columbia. DC Tutoring and Mentoring Initiative aims to bridge the gap between the 60,000+ DC youth reading below grade level or in need of additional support and the current capacity, starting with the tutoring and mentoring programs/organizations already in operation. We are working with 40 partner tutoring and mentoring organizations and schools to recruit the volunteers they need and to create a public campaign that will transform both educational outcomes and the civic culture of the city. DCTMI is part of the broader Civic Leadership Project, which also provides the Community Platform to communities around the country; the Form 990 Online, our easy-to-use website that walks nonprofits through the process of completing their IRS Form 990s (and some state forms, too); and the Civic Leadership Fellows program that we are launching in 2017 to engage college students in our work and give them the grounding in leadership that will help them make a positive impact both now and in their future careers.
