Dark Source is an independent lighting design & visual arts studio based in London. Designed light offers more than just visibility. It expresses form, reveals material, creates atmosphere and defines character. We design unique lighting concepts to enhance the visual and spatial experience through the medium of light and darkness. Founded in 2019 with a social & environmental conscience, our collaborative working style aims to add value to public domain, architecture, visual environment and design projects of various scales. Dark Source is created by the award-winning lighting designer & graphic artist Kerem Asfuroglu. Following his graduation from Wismar University – Architectural Lighting Design MA in 2010, Asfuroglu has worked at internationally acclaimed Speirs + Major, London Studio as a senior member of the creative team for 8 years. While at Speirs+Major, he worked on a diverse range of projects which include Battersea Power Station Redevelopment, Covent Garden Site-wide Lighting Improvement, Marble Arch Place Interiors, Shakespeare's New Place Visitor Experience, Medius House Commercial Interior, City Point Public Realm, Mumbai International Airport Entrance and Mary Seacole Monuments. He won several awards including Red Dot, Vox Juventa, PLDC Best Newcomer, The Air We Breathe and Future of Urban Lighting. He was awarded with the title of Dark Sky Defender by IDA in 2017 for his works advocating the importance of darkness. Kerem currently works as a guest lecturer of Dynamic Lighting in Public Spaces at Wismar University.
