Overview

BACKGROUND Multi-occupied premises, typically apartment blocks with or without retail units on the ground floor, require independently metered electrical connections for each separate unit. Until recently UK Power Networks, the Distribution Network Operator covering greater London and South East regions of the UK, would install as many individual connections as required for such new developments. Currently, as you may have experienced, UK Power Networks policy for such developments is to now install only a single ‘Bulk’ unmetered connection. UKPN have now transferred the obligation of providing multiple individual metering points to the Building Network Operator (BNO). Whilst UKPN’s charges may have reduced accordingly it now places a significant additional task onto the developer’s appointed BNO to provide and install a compliant installation bridging the gap between UKPN’s intake and the building's internal electrical installation. Although the concept of BNO was first established within the UKPN area, all other Distribution Network Operators (DNO) are following, and therefore our services are applicable on a UK wide basis. A BNO is required to design and install an electrical distribution system to support multiple metering points ensuring compliance with electricity industry codes of practise and current IEE wiring regulations. We are able to offer you a fully integrated BNO solution. Typically this involves the installation of main isolators, cabling, multi-way fused distribution boards, local isolators, containment and even *CT metering chambers for larger landlord and commercial supplies, all to electricity industry standards. *CT (Current Transformer) metering is generally required for connections rated at > 100Amps / 70 kVA. Each supply point requires a dedicated CT chamber including suitably rated metering class CT’s, installed to comply with MOCOPA (Meter Operator Code of Practise Agreement). CT’s need to be tested on installation to confirm ratio and polarity. WHAT WE DO *Our BNO service includes the design and installation work to ensure each and every unit within the development has its own adequately rated, independent connection, ready for metering. *We interface and liaise directly with UKPN (or any other connection provider of your choosing) and your own electrical contractor on your behalf ensuring ‘everything electrical’ is covered. No last minute nasty surprises. *If required we can obtain the Meter Point Administration Nos. (MPANs) and arrange all meter installations through our links with energy suppliers and meter operators. *Additionally if you’ve not yet appointed UK Power Networks we can do so on your behalf or possibly arrange a more competitive quotation through our links with Independent Connection Providers.
