Overview

County Durham Community Foundation is an independent, grant-making charity, fighting poverty and enriching lives in the North-East. We bring together supporters with their chosen causes, through well targeted grants that make a genuine difference to the lives of local people. We act as a vehicle for individuals, families and companies who want to put something back into their community, either in their lifetime, or through leaving a legacy. Similar to having a charitable trust but without the high administrative costs and lengthy legal processes, supporters can choose from a number of ways to channel their charitable giving by setting up named funds for the causes close to their hearts. Our grants support local voluntary-led organisations and projects that have an incredible impact in their community, enabling them to continue their work and make vital improvements to their service. We also provide support for individuals and families in need. The Foundation is managed by a board of trustees - professionals drawn from all sectors of the business and voluntary communities, supported by our President, Sir Paul Nicholson, the recently retired Lord Lieutenant of County Durham and other Vice Presidents, who act as ambassadors on behalf of the organisation.
