Overview

Consumers Distributing Ltd. was founded by Jack Stupp in 1957. The company originally began as a catalogue store in Canada and in the United States where it operated over 200 stores across North America. The company’s mission was to offer the lowest prices possible for customers by eliminating the costs of displaying merchandise in costly showrooms. After many years of success, the company was bought by a Quebec-based grocery retailer in 1989, and then sold again to a Belgian holding company in 1993. Things took an unfortunate turn when Consumers Distributing Ltd. was driven to declare bankruptcy in 1996. The former Consumers Distributing Ltd. was unprepared to adapt to the changes in the retail industry and the economy, which led to the falling of a giant Canadian company. In 2006, the company was reborn as a sole proprietorship business. In 2012, it was finally incorporated as Consumers Distributing Inc. and continues to operate as Canada’s own retailer. Today’s Consumers Distributing Inc. continues to be rooted in its Canadian history and prides of being a new vision to today’s retail industry.
