Overview
The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) was established in 1974 and reformed in 2009 as the foremost inclusive intergovernmental and multi-stakeholder platform within the United Nations where governments come together with other stakeholders to develop policy guidelines to address long-term structural causes of hunger and malnutrition. The CFS policy recommendations and guidance are developed starting from scientific and evidence-based reports produced by its High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) and/or through work supported technically by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP) and other representatives of the CFS Advisory Group. These policy guidelines serve as tools and resources to be adapted and utilized by countries in the formulation of their national policies, strategies, legislation, regulatory frameworks and business models.
